The Most Polarizing Substance on Earth

There exists an entity more polarizing than Hillary Clinton, on which everyone has an opinion. You either love them, or you hate them. Indifference is not an option.

Deviled eggs.

Seriously, whenever they are served, some people will gobble them up with delight, while others flee the room in panicked disgust.

As for myself, I fall firmly in the Pro deviled egg camp. Mmmm...just scrape out that hardboiled yellow, mush it up with a fork, stir in some mayo, mustard, salt and pepper, scoop the mix back into the white, and finish with a dash of paprika. So delicious, and nothing satanic about them at all. In fact, I might just start calling them Jesused eggs. Or maybe not.

How about the rest of you:

Deviled eggs, yay or nay?

Deviled Eggs = Yay!

I specifically love your deviled eggs, since Mike is a hater, so I never make them, and only have them when you do.

If I never see or smell another deviled egg, I will die happily. You can have my share, Eileen.

I did discover that November 2nd is apparently Deviled Egg Day, however...

Run for the hills! That person is serving deviled eggs! I am a hater.

Make that a big ol' YAY for me! I gobble them up with delight.

We always had them at every family function and major holiday when I was growing up. My husband's family never makes them. They, instead, choose to snack on those pickles wrapped in ham slathered with cream cheese.

I have been slowly winning them over by making them for his family at every function. This is my attempt to make them a new tradition on that side of the family. :)

YAY from me!

I make them every Halloween, and the funny thing is, I always forget how popular they are. Like, I'll buy a dozen eggs and make them up and put them out, and they're always the FIRST thing gone. I just need to go all out one year and make, like, fifty deviled eggs.

Meh. I'm ambivalent. I generally won't eat them if they've been sitting out (blech) or have too much mayo (blech). But, well-prepared, and fresh? Sure, I'll have one.

My comments:

Now I know what I'll be doing come Nov. 2nd. Eating deviled eggs.

Pickles wrapped in ham and cream cheese? Now THAT'S crazy!

Tom, apparently you are the only deviled egg flip-flopper I know.

I'm a hater. I've never had one but I think it's the eggs and mayo combo that doesn't do it for me. However, I'm mesmerized when I see people eating them. It's like I'm watching it on FearFactor.

Love 'em.

In fact, they're about the only thing I can "cook," on a special occasion. When in doubt, I always rock the deviled egg platter.

Can't say either way as I haven't had one in about 20 years. Do you know this English thing called Marmite? Their advertising campaign is literally "You either love it or you hate it" and that's definitely the case. Karen is a fan, me - not so much.

They make a great Halloween costume too.

I sent the costume to my parent's house because I had no room for a deviled egg costume. Later I sent Sasha to my parent's house because I had no room for a deviled cat.

When I went to visit my parents, I put on the deviled egg costume. Sasha was afraid of the costume and immediately took off. He ran into my old room and hid under the bed. I took the costume off and put it on the bed. He came out from under the bed and started cautiously looking for the deviled egg, he didn't realize it was me. Later I found him sleeping on the costume on top of my bed.

RIP Sasha

Kevin, never tried marmite, but if it's anything like vegemite, then barf!

Jay- Hah! Well, I've learned not to leave deviled eggs near Eri when she's drinking whiskey.

MJ- I wanted to put up a picture of you in your costume, but those were before my digital camera days. Poor Sasha. I did miss that evil little furball.

Yep, Marmite is the UK version, Vegemite is the Australian version. They might be slightly different, but they have the same overall love/hate effect.

I love them, my husband hates them, and I never make them. If I did, I'd use Durkey's.
